đ Aurora Opal w/ Orange Body & Green Fire â 80% Resin, Swirling Non-Directional Play-of-Color
Aurora Opal is a lab-created hybrid opal formed from silica combined with a high proportion of polymer (approximately 80%), giving it a layered structure and excellent workability. Unlike directional opal types, the Aurora variety displays a swirling, non-directional play-of-color â flowing, iridescent flashes that roll and shift across the stone in the sweeping, luminous effect that gives Aurora its name. Here, a warm orange body tone is lit by electric green fire, the complementary contrast making the swirling display especially vivid and high-energy. With its high polymer content, Aurora Opal cuts and polishes easily and is exceptionally forgiving to work, though it is soft and heat-sensitive â heat resistant only to about 140 °C (284 °F) â making it best suited to cabochons, inlay, intarsia, and carefully cut faceted stones.
⨠Key Features:
- Body Color: Warm orange â a fiery base tone with real presence
- Fire / Play-of-Color: Electric green in bold complementary contrast
- Pattern: Swirling and non-directional â flowing, iridescent color unique to the Aurora type
- Composition: Silica with approximately 75â85% polymer resin (~80%)
- Structure: Layered, with excellent workability
- Workability: Soft, easy-cutting, and highly forgiving to work
- Hardness: Pencil hardness ~3â5H â soft; best for cabochons, inlay, and protected settings
- Heat Resistance: Up to ~140 °C (284 °F) â keep cool, low heat only
- Best For: Cabbing, inlay, intarsia, and faceted stones
An unusual, attention-grabbing palette in an easy-cutting, fire-rich material. Each piece is sold by weight.
đ¸ Additional Notes:
- This is a high-resin material with a heat limit around 140 °C (284 °F) â cut and polish wet, keep it cool at all times, avoid ultrasonic cleaners, and use a cold dop rather than hot dop wax. Excess heat will damage the stone.
